A group of teenage boys accused of violent carjackings within the past month in Atlantic City has been arrested.
Police say six juvenile males were charged with carjacking and other related offenses following two separate incidents.
The first carjacking happened on Nov. 29 around 9 p.m. Police say a 68-year-old victim was assaulted by the group of boys during a carjacking near South Raleigh Avenue. They say the victim was transported to the AtlantiCare Regional Medical Center, City Division, to be treated for non-life-threatening injuries.
The day after the incident, authorities say the victim's vehicle was located by the Pleasantville Police Department. During an investigation, police say two juveniles were reported as runaways by their family. The two juveniles were suspects in the carjacking, police say, and they were both later located and arrested. As the investigation continued, police say three additional suspects were arrested.
The second carjacking happened over the weekend in the parking garage at Ocean Casino Resort. Police say the teens involved in the incident near South Raleigh Avenue pulled a 72-year-old driver from Brick out of his own car before speeding off. Police say the suspects stole the vehicle and fled the parking garage. The victim was not injured.
Shortly after, authorities say patrol officers located the vehicle and the driver fled from officers leading them on a pursuit that left Atlantic City. The pursuit was called off after becoming an increased risk to the public, according to police. The stolen vehicle was located in the area of the 700 block of Arctic Avenue around 12:30 a.m. Police say three males were located in the area, and they were identified as the suspects and arrested.
Atlantic City police arrested the six boys - all between the ages of 14 and 17. All arrested males were transported to the Essex County Juvenile Detention Center. The teens face several charges, including carjacking, robbery, assault and theft.
