The New York State Nurses Association says nurses at Flushing Hospital Medical Center, BronxCare Health System and the Brooklyn Hospital Center have approved new contracts.
It's the latest victory in the ongoing push nurses have been making over the last several days for better pay and better working conditions.
Nancy Hagans, the president of the association, says the new contracts come with pay raises between 5-7% over the next three years and preserve health benefits.
“These are nurses who work 12-hour shifts, pick up extra time, overtime to help their colleagues who are understaffed,” she says.
BronxCare issued a statement saying, “We value and appreciate our BronxCare nurses for their great work and dedication to patient care."
However, 8,700 total nurses at Montefiore Bronx, Mount Sinai Hospital, and Mount Sinai Morningside and West have not come to an agreement.
Mount Sinai says they're canceling some elective surgeries and moving patients, such as babies in intensive care units, in case of any fallout.
In response, Hagans says "our Mount Sinai nurses are outraged by these tactics."
If an agreement isn't reached by 11:59 p.m. Sunday, the nurses will likely strike Monday morning.
