Many residents say are saying out with the old and in with the new as they are ringing in the start of a new year.
2020 was full of challenges, and perhaps the biggest one is living in a global pandemic, with COVID-19 continuing to be a risk to everyone.
"Just waiting to see what this new year brings, so we that we can start fresh," says Ciprian Noel, of Brownsville.
"The COVID get it fixed with a vaccine," says Canarsie resident Santigo Alba.
On top of the coronavirus, Dr. Susan M. Lotto Ph.D., CASAC., clinical psychologist and New York State credentialed alcohol and substance abuse counselor, says people are facing other challenges by staying home as well.
"Depression is running rampant. As we know, all of the domestic violence rates have gone up," Lotto says. She adds that taking days one step at a time in 2021 is key.
"I think we have to have to have a more pro-social type of new year's resolution. I'm going to be kind to your neighbor," Lotto says.
When asked people what their 2021 new year's resolutions were, the top answers were exercise more, save money and get organized and many feel 2021 is the year to follow through on these resolutions.
"This a fresh start for this new year coming up," Noel says.
