A Soundview family says they have been living with heating and water issues for more than two weeks.
The Barrios family says the heater in their Sotomayor Houses apartment stopped working and their roof is leaking water, making it hazardous to walk around their home.
They say the leaks are so bad that they have drenched their belongings, including a bed that's now covered in mold.
The family of five is now staying in the living room, since the other rooms are too wet and cold, especially during the current cold snap.
News 12 reached out to the the New York City Housing Authority about the apartment. NYCHA says it knows some building have boilers that are well past their life expectancy and that tenants deserve better. The agency adds that staff visited the apartment and that there are no leaks, but instead condensation caused by the heating issues.
