Authorities say Joseph Barney was brought to the emergency room by his mother Tuesday afternoon after he was unresponsive and unconscious. He was later pronounced dead.
A police source told News 12 they believe the child was starved to death. They said the boy didn’t have any signs of trauma to his body, but he was underweight.
The NYPD is stationed outside a building on East 214th Street in Williamsbridge, where they say the 8-year-old lived.
