Orange County officials say the Village of South Blooming Grove was issued a total of 13 violations by the Health Department in 2024 for various water issues, five of which remain open.
They say the open violations are for failing to maintain enough water for residents with the village’s largest well out of service, exceeding the maximum allowable amount of iron and manganese at the Merriwold Water Treatment Plant, failure to collect inorganic testing and unapproved bypass work at the Sears Road pump.
Village officials have not returned our repeated calls for comment but said online that the state recently approved millions of dollars in aid to address these problems.
The Health Department action follows a residential and business construction boom in the rapidly growing village, including two large housing development projects that have been issued various environmental violations by the state Department of Environmental Conservation and are being monitored by the agency.
