The Southern Boulevard BID said it is stepping up its presence in the community following a fatal shooting on July 8.
Executive director Jay Medina said he and his staff begin their days patrolling the corridor.
The BID said its works to keep business owners and residents at ease, with constant patrolling, daily cleanups, de-escalation efforts and more.
Raised in the Bronx, Medina said his roots give him a better understanding of how to handle community conflict.
Medina and his staff are equipped with radios and bulletproof vests. They said the extra precautions are necessary.
The BID said it is looking forward to partnering with the NYPD and elected leaders to bring more police patrols and security cameras to the boulevard.
