St. Barnabas Hospital is planning to combat health problems in the borough by offering affordable housing.
The St. Barnabas Wellness Care and Affordable Housing Project will convert two parcels of underused land adjacent to the existing medical center on Third Avenue and 182nd Street.
The development will include a total of 314-units for low-income households.
Thirty percent of the housing will be set aside for those who were formerly homeless. Residents will also have access to health programs offered by St. Barnabas.
The $156 million project is expected to be completed by the end of 2018.
