The Bronx man accused of stabbing his wife and kidnapping their 3-year-old daughter before fleeing to New Jersey returned to New York Monday to appear before a judge.
Diomedes Valenzuela, 47, waived his extradition in New Jersey after state police there captured him on the Garden State Parkway. Authorities had issued an Amber Alert for his daughter, Rebecca Valenzuela, who they found in the same vehicle. She is doing OK.
He arrived at the 52nd Precinct Monday morning, where police charged him with attempted murder, assault, criminal possession of a weapon and custodial interference.
Valenzuela is a former New Jersey police officer. Police accuse him of stabbing his wife multiple times last Tuesday.
His lawyer says he will plead not guilty.
The wife is recovering at St. Barnabas Hospital.
