Gov. Andrew Cuomo released a draft of his New York State COVID-19 Vaccine Administration Program - as the community waits for updates on the development of a vaccine against the coronavirus.

The plan prioritizes people in high-risk occupations like health care workers, but also those who are most at risk of dying from the virus, like people in long-term care facilities.

"We will do it in concert with the federal government, the federal government is in charge of producing the actual vaccines and distributing the vaccines," says Gov. Cuomo.

The plan would divide vaccine distribution into six phases with health care workers in high-risk areas having first access to the vaccine. The next rounds include other kinds of essential workers, like teachers, child care professionals, first responders and those with health conditions.

Phase three includes seniors, then healthy adults - and children would be able to get the vaccine in the last phase.

On Sunday, the National Association of Governors, led by Gov. Cuomo, submitted a document with a large list of questions they have for President Donald Trump regarding the federal government's handling of a future vaccine.

The group also asked to meet with the president to discuss it further.
