Thousands of children are expected to go trick-or-treating later today decked out in their costumes for Halloween.
News 12 Brooklyn’s Sabrina Franza says there are many ways to stay safe for the holiday.
Protect children by making them more visible to cars by adding reflective tape to their goodie bag, carry a flashlight, and try to travel in groups. Sunset tonight is at 5:53 p.m.
Also walk on the far edge of the roadway, facing traffic if there is a construction site nearby and sidewalks are blocked.
Parents with teens trick-or-treating by themselves for the first time should try to communicate by carrying a cellphone. Teens should also travel in groups.
Check for expired, unwrapped or suspicious treats before eating.
