A 20-year-old Stony Brook University student was arrested Monday and charged with selling narcotics from his dorm room.

William Turri was taken into custody after Suffolk County Police Department narcotics detectives and SUNY Stony Brook State University Police recovered methamphetamines, ketamine and other items used for drug sales in his dorm room on campus, according to the SCPD.

“I haven’t really run into anything like that. Just to imagine that drugs like that are in circulation on campus, it’s kind of frightening," said freshman Chance Titus.

Turri, a Fairport, NY native, was charged with multiple counts of criminal possession of a controlled substance, criminal sale of a controlled substance and criminal use of drug paraphernalia.

“What happens if somebody went through his stuff and God forbid there was fentanyl in it, that’s tragic," said sophomore Caitlyn Carrington.

He is being held overnight at the Sixth Precinct and is expected to be arraigned at First District Court in Central Islip on Tuesday.

“It’s better for sure that he is away, for the safety of everyone on campus," Titus said.

Stony Brook University provided the following statement after the arrest:

"We are aware of the arrest of a Stony Brook University student following a joint investigation with the Suffolk County Police Department that started after receipt of an anonymous Crimestoppers tip. Stony Brook University maintains strict policies regarding illegal activity and campus safety. As is standard practice, the University works closely with law enforcement partners when necessary. Due to the ongoing legal process, we cannot comment on the specifics of this case."
