WEATHER ALERT: Winter weather advisories are in effect for Sussex, Warren, Morris, western Passaic and western Bergen counties.
Quick-hitting snow may lead to minor accumulations throughout the northwestern half of the state tonight. The intensity of the snow will be minor, but it could snow for a few hours before eventually changing over. This might lead to 1-2 inches more of snow on top of what collected last night.
You will eventually hear the snow change over to ice as sleet pellets begin to bounce off windows throughout the overnight hours. Temperatures will slowly rise as warmer air moves in from the south.
Rain takes over in the wee hours of Thursday morning. Up to a half inch is expected. The rain and warmer temperatures will wash away and melt the snow in southern areas that saw a decent snowfall last night. The combination of rain and snow melt could lead to localized ponding on more susceptible roads.
Friday looks fantastic for Valentine’s Day. Sunshine to melt our hearts and to brighten our outlook. Temperatures will be slightly below average and that's why I am going ahead and issuing "cuddle alerts" for Friday night.
Storms return for the weekend. Saturday will start snowy but transition to rain. It's still too early to tell if there will be a collection before the changeover. However, when it changes over, it's going to rain right through Sunday. Rain is a good thing. We need it. Not necessarily on the weekend, but we are still in a serious drought and every drop helps.
