An air quality alert is in effect from 11 a.m. through 11 p.m.
Here’s what you need to know:
  • A HEAT ADVISORY is in effect through 8 p.m. Dangerous heat and humidity continue for one more day. Heat index values up to 102 are expected today.
  • An AIR QUALITY ALERT is in effect 11 a.m. through 11 p.m. This is for ground level ozone, not wildfire smoke. The high heat and humidity will elevate pollutant levels at the surface. People in sensitive groups should avoid strenuous outdoor activities and seek air conditioning.
  • It's a warm and humid start to the day under a sunny sky. Temperatures are in the upper-70s to low-80s.
  • Today will make it day three of 90-degree temperatures or higher, making it officially our second heat wave of the summer season. It's another sweltering day with extremely hot temperatures in the mid-90s. Heat index values up to 100 are expected this afternoon and evening.
  • Pop-up strong storms move into the borough this evening ahead of a slow-moving cold front. The timing is after 3 p.m. to 7 p.m. There's an isolated risk for severe weather. Downpours, damaging winds, small hail and lightning are possible.
  • Temperatures fall back to the 80s but humidity remains on Thursday. Slow-moving storms move into our area Thursday late afternoon through early Friday morning. There's a medium risk of scattered flash flooding. Up to an inch of rainfall is possible with locally higher amounts through Friday morning.
  • Humidity lowers on Friday with below-normal temperatures in the 70s as we welcome August. Some showers linger early Friday morning. We're welcoming the first weekend of August with sunshine and comfortably warm temperatures.
