Messy travel conditions continue as the combination of windswept rain and wet snowflakes will reduce visibility and road conditions remain very slick with leaves covering the road. No snow accumulations are expected.
This much-needed rain comes on the heels of the rare drought warning that was issued earlier this week. There has already been about two inches of rain so far, and up to another quarter inch of rain is possible through Saturday morning. It will not be a drought-busting storm, however, as we need up to 14 inches of rain to make up the current deficit. That is roughly seven times the amount of rain we just received.
Gusts will also pick up through the night, and exceed 30 mph at the immediate coast, with 25 to 30 mph gusts elsewhere across the borough. Twenty to 30 mph gusts continue through the weekend, with occasional 30 to 40 mph gusts on Saturday morning as colder air works down to the area. Some potentially dangerous gusts are possible at midday Saturday with 40 mph gusts for many. Some modelling even suggests 50 mph gusts at the immediate coast around 1 p.m. Make sure any loose items are secured, including holiday decorations.
High temperatures rebound into the 50s for the weekend and near 60 degrees early next week. A weak storm could bring a shower or two Monday night, then all eyes are on Thanksgiving and Black Friday for another potential wintry storm. Some rain and/or snow is possible, mainly on Friday. The exact track and intensity will be clearer early next week. Stay tuned for travel updates as the holiday approaches.
