The mother accused of throwing her 6-month-old baby to her death out of a sixth-floor window pleaded not guilty at her arraignment Tuesday.
Tenisha Fearon, a mother of four, had tears in her eyes as prosecutors laid out the charges in connection with the death of her baby daughter.
Police arrested Fearon on Oct. 15 after her infant daughter Jahnyla fell to her death out of a sixth-floor window at Fearon's Tiebout Avenue apartment.
The four-count indictment includes a top charge of second-degree murder.
An initial psychiatric evaluation deemed her fit and competent to understand the charges against her, although her defense attorney hinted at a possible insanity defense.
"The nature of the allegations in this case certainly suggest someone that may have been under the influence of a severe psychiatric episode at the time of the incident," says defense attorney Thomas Kenniff.
Fearon's next court appearance will be March 21.
