Playground 52 in Longwood begins 2nd phase of construction
A Longwood playground is getting a massive overhaul that's been decades in the making.
On Tuesday, the community celebrated the start of Playground 52’s second phase of construction.
The playground was named after a group of volunteers called 52 People for Progress, which sought to bring the park back to life.
Phase one began in May and took on the task of new basketball courts and a new amphitheater. A year later, the park is entering its second phase, which includes installing new play equipment for kids and sprucing the place up with some new plants.
The playground was helped through the city's Community Parks initiative, which invests in under-resourced public parks.
Playground 52 is expected to be completed by May 2018.
