A 45-year-old woman was fatally shot in her apartment on Grand Concourse Saturday night, police tell News 12.

The incident happened around 9:45 p.m. when Wendy Martinez went to answer a knock at the door and was fatally shot through the peephole, they say.

Martinez's son, who was home at the time, called 911 and police arrived to find the victim lying unconscious and unresponsive with a gunshot wound to the face.

EMTs pronounced her dead at the scene.

News 12 is told Martinez was a mother of two sons and worked as a receptionist at NYC Health and Hospitals Lincoln.

Neighbors say they feel sorry for the victim's son especially because it happened on Thanksgiving weekend.

Police say no arrests have been made.
