NYPD: Multiple car break-ins reported at Mall at Bay Plaza
Investigators say multiple car break-ins were reported at the Mall at Bay Plaza on Thursday.
They say the cars that were broken into were all Hondas.
A victim tells News 12 that she went to the mall Thursday night to shop for Valentine's Day gifts at JC Penney when her Honda Civic was broken into.
She says she noticed someone had shuffled through her car, and that her purse, iPad, Airpods and work laptop were all stolen. The victim says she's confident she locked her car and found a broken lock and a door handle on the ground.
She says the thief worked around her car alarm and did not leave fingerprints behind.
Police say they received two other reports of car break-ins at the mall Thursday, with $366 worth of belongings stolen from a Honda parked by Saks off Fifth Avenue and nearly $1,000 worth of items stolen by another Honda parked by K-Mart. They say the door lock was broken in each incident.
The Mall at Bay Plaza said in a statement, "safety is our highest priority at the Mall at Bay Plaza and we are actively working with the NYPD on this ongoing investigation."
Police say they were not provided with surveillance video and are trying to determine if the three incidents are connected.
There is no suspect description at this time.
