126-unit affordable, supportive housing development opens in Mt. Eden

A ribbon-cutting ceremony Tuesday welcomed a brand new affordable and supportive housing building to the Mount Eden community.
Just a few months ago, Krystal Gonzalez was living in the shelter system, but that all changed when she got the keys to her new apartment at 111 E. 172nd St.
The 126-unit building is one of Community Access' newest developments, a nonprofit providing affordable and supportive housing to people in the Bronx.
Within the building, 60 studio apartments at the building are for tenants referred by the New York State Office of Mental Health.
"They're going to be integrated in a community where the other half of residents are low-income families, community members, and it's that kind of community integration which is so critical," says Dr. Ann Sullivan, commissioner of the state Office of Mental Health.
The building also offers on-site social services with the goal of create a community within a community.
