After several incidents involving police across New York City, the head of the NYPD is trying to calm tensions while also admitting that not all his officers are perfect.

Police Commissioner Dermot Shea addressed the media after several attacks on officers and showed a video of various incidents including one Wednesday in the 70th precinct. 

Body camera footage shows what occurred after an officer was stabbed in the neck while protecting a stretch of Church Avenue from looters. Shea went on to describe how officers were hit in the head with fire extinguishers, run over by cars and being hit with objects.

He says this violence does not coordinate with the mission of those exercising their right to protest for peace. 

However, he does admit that his officers are human and plans to address any officers who displayed excessive force in dealing with protesters. 

The head of the largest police department in the country says he's been working to improve the force and is determined to avoid any assassination of law enforcement.

Shea says he needs more help from elected officials in calming tension between police and the community. 

He plans to evaluate each incident and determine if more action needs to be taken against specific officers.
