Manhattan College students visited the Van Cortlandt House Museum Wednesday as part of their "Slavery in the Bronx" college course.
Professor Adam Arenson says he believes that students seeing history with their own eyes is good for the class.
Students visited a dark, cramped slave quarters built by the Van Cortlandt family, along with slave burial grounds.
The students say they plan to share what they've learned through a presentation they'll deliver to community leaders and residents in May instead of writing a final paper.
The Van Cortlandt House Museum is one of the oldest buildings in the Bronx.
