Studio dedicated to DMX proposed for Nepperhan Community Center in Yonkers
Fans and community members are mourning the loss of rapper DMX who died Friday, his family said.
DMX, whose real name was Earl Simmons grew up playing basketball at the Nepperhan Community Center in Yonkers.
The center’s director Jim Bostic says there's now a proposal to build a TV and recording studio in the basement in DMX's honor.
“He left a niche in the city of Yonkers for young boys and girls to feel like there's nothing they cannot achieve,” says Bostic.
DMX had five consecutive number one albums, but amid his successes he also had struggles with addiction, bipolar disorder and depression.
His personal challenges inspired his music and philanthropy.
DMX's death is prompting a wave of love on social media - especially from fellow Yonkers rappers including Sheek Louch, Jadakiss, and Styles P from The Lox.
This week DMX's song 'Ruff Ryders Anthem' is in the top 10 of all genres on iTunes.
His manager has told News 12 his eighth album has been finished and it includes collaborations with Bono, Alicia Keys and Usher. It's expected to come out this summer.
DMX's family has not announced any funeral arrangements yet.
