Teen makes historic discovery about African American who fought in Civil War

A 13-year-old girl who made a historic discovery about an African American man serving in the Civil War is calling for his name to be added to a war memorial.
Carlie Prudhomme, of Middle Island, says she found out that the man was Albert Freeman and that he was born in Middle Island.
Prudhomme, an eighth grader at Longwood Junior High School, says Freeman was an indentured servant for about a decade before he was freed. Freeman then volunteered to serve in the Civil War and died during his service.
Prudhomme says she loves history and that her passion led her to making the discovery.
It's expected that Freeman's name will be added to the Longwood Civil War Memorial on Memorial Day.
Gail Bailey, of the Middle Island Civic Association, says she can't think of a more appropriate addition to the monument.
