TROPICAL UPDATE: Hurricane Franklin is currently a major Category 4 hurricane slowly moving northeast in the Atlantic. It is expected to bring dangerous rip currents, waves and surf to all of the ocean-facing beaches Wednesday through this weekend. Minor coastal flooding will be possible on Wednesday in Brooklyn and Queens due to the high surf from Franklin and the supermoon occurring later that evening.
Tropical Storm Idalia continues to rapidly intensify in the Gulf as it moves into a favorable environment. It is expected to strengthen to a major Category 3 hurricane by Wednesday and impact the southwest coast of Florida and the Florida Peninsula. Significant flash flooding, dangerous storm surge and strong winds are expected. Next areas of interest are the Carolinas and Georgia. Idalia will bring us a few more clouds on Friday and rough surf through this weekend.
