The Fordham University community is on high alert after a symbol of hate appeared on campus.
Fordham University Public Safety sent out an alert saying that a resident assistant found a swastika in a residency hall bathroom. Public Safety immediately conducted an investigation, and found the symbol has been there since before the first day of classes on Aug. 27.
News 12 is told that the swastika was most likely drawn by a member of one or two visiting groups who were staying at the residency hall over the summer.
People say that the situation needs to be taken seriously by the school.
"I don't think we have an environment that breeds that kind of hate," says Fordham student Mary Hurstell.
The NYPD task crime force is investigating the situation.
