A petition for Jennifer Lopez to open a performing arts center in the Bronx is going viral.

The petition was created by 16-year-old Ruben Germosen. Germosen, an aspiring singer and dancer, says he wants to gain enough support to show Lopez, a Castle Hill native, how much the program would help local children.

Germosen says Lopez's story is inspiring, but he feels growing up in the Bronx does not provide many opportunities.

"It shows that if she can do it, I can do it and many others can do it," says Germosen.

So far, more than 70 supporters have signed the online petition. The supporters say a program for youth who aspire to a career in show business will help brighten up the borough.

Germosen says he has reached out to Lopez on Twitter. He has yet to get a response, but he believes that once his petition gets 1,000 signatures he will have enough support to formally reach out to her.
