As millions of families across the nation prep their favorite meals and get ready to sit at the table for Thanksgiving on Thursday, dozens of Bronx residents won't get that chance.
Tenants at the Bronx River Houses say they have been left with a lack of gas since October. "We have over 14 families who can't have Thanksgiving dinner and it's absurd. It shouldn't be this way," said tenant Khayian Reed.
"Today we're going to be going to my uncle's house to celebrate Thanksgiving because we can't really do much here. It's really hard you know as much as we want, we can't eat what we want. It's just a lot," said resident Brittany Mangual.
News 12 reached out to NYCHA for a statement, and they responded saying, "Gas service interruptions and restoration work are a matter of public safety and involve multiple partners and steps in order to safely restore service as quickly as possible. These processes are currently underway at Bronx River Houses, where service was shut off as a precaution due to a leak in the gas line. Residents in need of assistance are encouraged to call the Customer Contact Center at 718-707-7771."
