Testimony: DNA found at Paul Caneiro’s home matched that of his niece; bullets matched his gun
A senior DNA analyst testified that more samples collected from a frozen pile of clothes found in Paul Caneiro's basement found that the jeans and gloves showed strong evidence of biological remains from his niece, Sophia Caneiro.

As prosecutors get closer to wrapping up their side of the murder trial against Paul Caneiro, more expert witnesses took the stand on Tuesday.
A senior DNA analyst testified that more samples collected from a frozen pile of clothes found in Paul Caneiro's basement found that the jeans and gloves showed strong evidence of biological remains from his niece, Sophia Caneiro.
A strand of hair recovered from a scarf likely had DNA also belonging to Sophia, according to expert testimony.

An Alcohol, Tobacco and Firearms expert told jurors the fire at Keith Caneiro's Colts Neck home was not electrical in nature and noted the Verizon cables were cut on the outside of the home.
A ballistics expert testified about bullets collected from the grass.
“These two bullets were fired out of the same barrel of a gun,” said Chris Clayton, a NJSP ballistics expert.
Clayton testified that the spent cartridges found on the property all came from the same 9 mm semi-automatic handgun using microscopic comparisons.
Clayton told jurors that he test-fired weapons using matching ammunition found at the Colts Neck scene with bullets confiscated from Paul Caneiro's home.
Using the process of elimination, Clayton ultimately testified that the bullets fired all came from the same gun recovered from Paul Caneiro's basement - out of the same barrel recovered from the Porsche.
Cross-examination of the ballistics expert witness is scheduled to begin at 8:30 a.m. Wednesday.
