Bronx Borough President Vanessa Gibson says Bronx Week will make a comeback on Thursday for the first time since the pandemic started.
The 10-day celebration themed “History in the Making” kicks off May 5 and will feature health events, sports, parties and performances.
“Bronx week is an opportunity for us to celebrate the best of the borough,” Gibson says. “What we're doing here is highlighting some of the wonderful things that are happening in the Bronx."
The event will celebrate the people and places that make the borough so special, like cultural landmarks, small businesses, veterans and volunteers.
Director Eif Rivera, actor Luis Antonio Ramos and rapper Remy Ma will be inducted into the Bronx Walk of Fame on May 14.
Marisol Rivera, the program manager of Save Our Streets, says these inductees “have used their talents and their skills to showcase the Bronx in a positive light."
Rivera adds that after COVID and a recent uptick in violence, it will be a relief to have an uplifting event.
"It just feels good to have some positive feelings, some positive events so we can come together and just show what the Bronx is made of,” she says.
Bronx Week will have its first ever silent disco at Woodlawn Cemetery on Friday the 13th. It will finish with a ball, parade and concert on May 14-15.
