‘The city has done nothing’: Bushwick residents evacuated after Ida forces basement wall to collapse

The Department of Buildings confirmed the wall collapse in the building was due to damage from the storm.

Several Bushwick residents had to be evacuated late Friday after their basement wall collapsed.
The family that lives in 226 Palmetto St. tell News 12 that floodwaters from Ida came up to the basement ceiling.
Resident Ada DeJesus-Milam says the city has done nothing despite flooding in the area for decades before Ida.
“The city has done nothing,” DeJesus-Milam say. “The sewer system always gets flooded, of course it was worse with Ida.”
The Department of Buildings confirmed the wall collapse in the building was due to damage from the storm.
They say they evacuated all tenants for public safety as they continue to investigate.
