The president of the Council of School Supervisors & Administrators spoke with News 12 Friday about working with the new city school chancellor Meisha Ross Porter.
Mark Cannizzaro congratulated Porter on becoming the next chancellor and says he was very impressed with her interview. Cannizzaro says one thing he liked was that "she said she's ready to start and hit the ground running, and we need that."
"Come this summer, we are going to need a better system in place than we had last year, and the time to start planning is yesterday regarding the summer and also regarding September," said Cannizzaro.
Cannizzaro said, "The key part to that is going to be communication. We have had a breakdown over the last several months between DOE and principals. Things weren't reaching them quick enough about what was changing."
Cannizzaro couldn't stress enough how important the line of communication is to the success of the school system.
"I listened to the interview and I was impressed. She said she's ready to start and hit the ground running and we need that."
Cannizzaro says come September, it will be 18 months since some kids have been in a classroom. He says everyone is eager to get the kids back to school, saying it's key to communicating things before they are implemented.
