The Laundromat Project has been around for a decade. Organizers use the term Laundromat because that's where they say conversations happen, relationships are forged and communities are strengthened.
It is also a metaphor for using art to make the world a better, more friendly place in public spaces like outside of the Hunts Point train station.
When the mural near the Hunts Point subway station is done, it will show a portrait of Assata Shakur. She is a woman who the artists say stood up for what she believe in.
