In a news conference Friday, New York Gov. Andrew Cuomo warned there will be a rise in COVID-19 cases. He said while the New York infection rate is low at 2.6%, the surrounding states, as well as the rest of the world is seeing a rise in their rates.

As a result of the rising infection rates, Cuomo says he will meet this weekend with New Jersey Gov. Phil Murphy, Connecticut Gov. Ned Lamont, as well as the governors of the three other Northeast states, for a summit to discuss the COVID-19 policies in each state. He added that just this week, New York aligned itself with New Jersey in closing establishments with state liquor licenses, as well as gyms, at 10 p.m.

Cuomo believes that between the upcoming holidays, increase in travel and the cold weather, things are “going to continue to deteriorate over coming weeks.” He stressed the importance of limiting indoor gatherings at homes, saying that the ‘living room spread’ is real.

In positive news, as far as micro-clusters, Cuomo says that Rockland County has moved from an orange zone to a yellow zone.

When asked about the possible closure of New York City schools if the rate reaches 3%, Cuomo says he hopes the city, schools and parents can work together to reopen as soon as possible, if that happens.
