2020 is just around the corner, but first up is New Year's Eve -- and that means the big crystal ball will be coming down from high above Times Square.
News 12 got a behind-the-scenes look at the new crystal panels sliding into place on Friday. Workers installed the 192 new Waterford crystal triangles onto the face of the 12-foot wide geodesic sphere high above Times Square.
The new panels have pineapples on them -- traditionally representing hospitality and goodwill. Waterford's master artisan explained that they symbolize this year's theme -- Gift of Goodwill.
The new panels join the other almost 2,500 crystal pieces, lit up by more than 30,000 LEDs. More than a million people are expected to attend, and hundreds of millions are expected to watch from around the world.
The ball will drop at exactly midnight, as it does every year.
