New York Archbishop Cardinal Timothy Dolan made two stops in Rockland County on Sunday to honor two new monuments.
The Cardinal’s first stop was at St. Ann’s Church in Nyack to bless the parish’s new statue that honors both the church’s 150th anniversary and the matriarch that the church is named after.
“This parish in Nyack, St. Ann’s, decided to put on this studding statue of the Holy family and I am thrilled they did,” Dolan said.
The Archbishop also spoke at Mass before blessing the statue outside the church. He says the statue represents more than what is shown.
"One of the things that helps us in our commitment to the future and our life of faith in the present is that we remember those who go before us, especially the saints. We call it the communion of saints, which means our spiritual family,” Dolan said.
Dolan also visited St. Francis of Assisi Church in West Nyak to bless a 120-foot pathway lined with crosses. The path was created by an 18-year-old Eagle Scout.
"For your Eagle Scout project, you're supposed to do a project that serves your community, your faith, your family, those are the values we teach in scouting,” says Ryan Erichson, of New City. "With a lot of help from my fellow scouts and friends and family we were able to organize this 120-foot gravel pathway."
Dolan said that he believes that faith is in good hands with young people like Erichson.
“To see a young person who’s taking that seriously, the teaching and the invitation of Jesus – hallelujah,” Dolan said.
