Today marks a devastating 3 years since the deadly Twin Parks fire that claimed 17 lives and injured 40 people - making it New York City's deadliest fire.

Since the fire, several pieces of legislations have been introduced and passed to prevent another fire like this from happening again.

Rep. Ritchie Torres was able to pass legislation in 2022 to empower the U.S. Fire Administration to investigate fire and prevent future ones.

The City Council voted on another legislation to require inspections for self-closing doors in residential buildings.

In March of 2022, Mayor Eric Adams signed an executive order to increase coordination between HPD and FDNY to identify buildings with large numbers of fire safety violations for enhanced FDNY inspections.
