Tony Lip's Italian Restaurant & Pizza, named after the main character in the Oscar-nominated film, “Green Book,” will host a watch party Sunday night during the Academy Awards.
The real life “Tony Lip” was Frank Vallelonga, father of restaurant owner Frank Vallelonga, Jr.
Frank Jr. named the restaurant after his late father, a longtime bouncer and actor who lived in Paramus and was hired in the 1960s as a chauffeur and security guard for African-American pianist Don Shirley. It a story told both in the film and in the pictures that line the walls of the restaurant.
The screenplay for the film was written by Nick Vallelonnga, Tony Lip’s other son. Several other family members make appearances in the film about the colorful patriarch.
Some cast members from The Sopranos are expected to attend (Vallelonga portrayed mob boss Carmine Lupertazzi on the show), and the Cadillac used in the film will be parked out front.
The manager tells News 12 the restaurant is still taking reservations for the party.
