Police: Armed man killed during confrontation with officers in Town of Poughkeepsie

It was reported that a man was armed with a sword and was attacking members of the Dutchess County Crisis Team.

An armed man was fatally shot by an officer during a confrontation in the Town of Poughkeepsie, police say.

It happened Thursday around 2:15 p.m. when police officers were dispatched to 8 Fair Oaks Drive in response a report of an active assault. It was reported that a man was armed with a sword and was attacking members of the Dutchess County Crisis Team who were present at the residence.

Responding officers entered the residence and found two men inside. One of the individuals had sustained a head injury.

A confrontation then ensued between the armed suspect and officers. An officer fired shots from his department-issued handgun.

Officers administered aid to the suspect on the scene. The suspect was transported to a hospital, where he was later pronounced deceased.
