Bronx-born comedy legend Tracy Morgan returned home Tuesday morning to help hand out Thanksgiving turkeys to residents at the Mott Haven Community Center.
"It’s the holiday season and despite what’s going on with the pandemic, you know this is beautiful. Especially Tracy Morgan coming out here - nobody expected none of this here,” said Mott Haven resident Richard Benitez.
Benitez was one of 500 people who braved the cold to get a turkey and says he felt the love of the community.
“This is our way to give back to the community for giving to us,” said Morgan.
Morgan teamed up with Greater New York Automobile Dealers Association and East Side House Settlement to pass out hundreds of turkeys to the community ahead of Thanksgiving.
Those leading the turkey distribution said they hope it brightens the holidays for an area of the South Bronx that’s been hit hard by the coronavirus pandemic.
"I think if this brings a little more joy and a smile and they’re able to enjoy with family, that's the satisfaction of it all,” said Greater New York Automobile Dealers Association President Mark Schienberg.
