The Archdiocese of New York announced that two more Bronx Catholic schools will be closing their doors after this year. This brings the total to four Bronx Catholic schools expected to close their doors by the end of the school year.
Our Lady of Refuge and St. Lucy School, in the Bronx, and St. Mark the Evangelist, in Manhattan, are closing at the end of this school year, the archdiocese said.
The archdiocese says this recent decision comes after looking at the school's sustainability benchmarks. They say the focus now is to strengthen and renew existing schools.
Meanwhile, News 12 previously reported Sacred Heart School in Highbridge and Immaculate Conception School in Melrose will also cease operations at the end of this year.
Additionally, in 2023 six Bronx Catholic schools also closed their doors.
