A Brooklyn MTA worker is on a ventilator trying to beat COVID-19, and his union is rallying behind him to send out a message for help to save his life.
MTA conductor and union board member Ben Schaffer is fighting for his life at Maimonides Medical Center in Brooklyn.
The TWU 100 union is asking the public to donate plasma, regardless of blood type, to help their colleague.
The union says Schaffer’s doctors have recommended the experimental convalescent plasma treatment. That is when they take blood from male donors who have tested positive and recovered from COVID-19.
As of last week, the MTA has lost 68 transit workers while many more are still battling the disease.
