Officials announced Monday that members of the United Federation of Teachers have approved a new contract with the Department of Education.
The new contract is said to raise UFT members' salaries by 17.58%. Salary for starting teachers will begin at just over $72,300 and will include an annual bonus.
New contracts will provide annual raises, annual bonuses and a $3,000 one-time signing bonus.
The approved contract will also cut down the length of time it takes a teacher to reach a six-figure salary from 15 to eight years.
