A concert series in Prospect Heights helped to raise money to help Ukrainian refugees fleeing the devastating war.

Organizers of the three-day series say they put this event together after looking for ways that they could help Ukrainians in their time of need.

They also called Friday night’s event a celebration of Ukrainian music and culture, as well as a time for concertgoers to reflect on the tragic war in Ukraine.

All proceeds from the concert series will be donated to the nonprofit Razom for Ukraine and will go towards providing medical supplies and other humanitarian relief to Ukrainians in need.

Friday was the second day of the series, and organizers said they have raised $4,000 towards their $30,000 goal so far.

The curator of the event, Alex Pryrodny, is from Ukraine and said along with raising money, he also hopes people will also learn more about his country.

“It’s not as well-known as it should be, and we are trying to change that. We are trying to present kind of a little overview of Ukrainian culture for New York audience and hopefully they will be curious. They will come back for more,” Pryrodny said.

“What’s going on in Ukraine is the most important thing that’s happening right now. It’s really challenging all of our freedoms and it’s important that we all sort of step up and get involved,” said organizer Jimmy Greenfield.

The third and final concert of this series will be on Saturday.
