Residents in Riverdale say an uneven pathway that is riddled with potholes continues to be a safety issue.
Isla McIntyre says the pathway, located in front of 601 Kappock Street, a co-op building, is a recipe for disaster.
"Especially when it's icy or raining, it gets very slippery but with the giant potholes, with my stroller, it gets really tough," says McIntyre. "It's really dangerous there's a lot of elderly people that live in the neighborhood, too, so we really wish they'd fix it for everyone."
Other neighbors say they have been trying to get the pathway fixed for decades to no avail.
"The city claims it's not their property, the buildings say it's not their property. If that's true, it's no one's property. I believe it's the city's property, and even if it's not, the city should just do something about it," said Assemblyman Jeffrey Dinowitz.
A spokesperson for the Department of Transportation says the city does not own the property, adding that maintenance is the responsibility of property owners.
The department does agree though that "this is a vital pathway for the community. Saying…the city is actively looking into the appropriate next steps."
News 12 reached out to the owners listed for the building but has not heard back yet.
