Union members at Rutgers University are demanding more stringent COVID-19 protocols amid concerns of the omicron variant.

The Executive Council of the Rutgers University chapter of the American Association of University Professors/ American Federation of Teachers say they want to see tighter COVID protocols in the coming semester. 

"Since vaccination has become prevalent and become required among the students this school year at Rutgers it really seems like the administration wants to pretend that the pandemic is over," says Dylan Simpson, Rutgers AAUP-AFT.

The union passed a resolution Thursday with demands for the school, including continued weekly testing, social distancing in classrooms and available booster shots on campus.

As of now, union members said they don't have a planned course of action if the school doesn't adhere to their demands.

Rutgers requires students and faculty to be fully vaccinated.
