Dozens of 32BJ Bronx hand-persons, superintendents, and doormen joined 32BJ union officers at a rally outside of Bronx Borough Hall to demand fair contracts.
The essential workers are quickly approaching the day that their contracts will expire, and they say their health insurance will seize if their contracts are not renewed.
In contract negotiations, union workers say that employers have proposed a new set of health benefits that would gut current Bronx workers’ employer-paid health benefits and a separate contract for superintendents.
Workers say they feel insulted after they sacrificed their lives to keep Bronx residents safe during the COVID-19 pandemic.
“This makes me so unsafe and unsure of the next step,” said one union worker. “I have kids, whose health and lives rely on my insurance. This is not fair and we should continue to have the health benefits that we have.”
The union will be back at the table tomorrow with employers to negotiate fair contracts for 32BJ employees.
