A system outage that impacted United Airlines led to flight delays at Newark Liberty International Airport on Wednesday evening.
The technological issues caused a ground stop at Newark Liberty for a time. The Federal Aviation Administration says that some delays are expected as the issues are resolved.
“We are working with customers to get them to their destinations after a technology disruption on Wednesday evening. The underlying technology issue has been resolved, and, while we expect residual delays, our team is working to restore our normal operations,” a spokesperson for United wrote in a statement.
Travelers are urged to check with their airlines to find out the status of their flights.
Sources tell News 12 that United is treating this as a “controllable delay,” which means that customers’ expenses, such as hotels, will be paid for when applicable.
Sources say the outage was not related to any cybersecurity issues in the airline industry.
