For many, the holidays are a time to sit back and relax -- but for those working for the U.S. Postal Service, it's by far the busiest time of the year.

The U.S. Postal Service works around the clock packing, sorting and delivering to make sure everyone gets their letters and packages before the holidays.

This past week, more than 6 million packages pass through their East New York facility to get to families locally and across the country. During any other week in the year, that number is usually closer to 4 million.

In addition to making sure gifts arrive on time, USPS is also helping Santa's elves with its Operation Santa program. The program digitizes letters to Santa so that anyone can go online, read the letters and help the big guy out. This year, the program extended to 15 cities.

While many of the plant's employees will work extra hours through the holidays, the senior plant manager says it's worth it.

"When I drive around throughout my community and I'm on my way home and see those children, I'm just thinking they are going to get the gift they want shortly, and that feels great to service the customers," says Anthony Rozier.
