Construction workers in Olinville held a protest today demanding an end to what they are calling unfair working conditions.
Employees of the construction company Urban Erectors say wage theft and inadequate benefits are just some of the reasons for the protest.
Workers, politicians and activists have rallied around Lafondra Brown, an Urban Erectors employee who walked off the work site in the middle of her shift. Brown says she walked off the job and went on strike because she could no longer deal with the working conditions.
Brown also says she has dealt with racial discrimination and sexual harassment while working for the construction company.
Last year, workers filed a class-action lawsuit against the owner of Urban Erectors, Tom Auringer, regarding wage theft and unfair pay.
Attorneys for the workers are scheduled to meet with Auringer for a potential settlement next week. If a settlement isn't reached, workers say they will go ahead with the lawsuit as planned.
